Gators Open the Sumrall Era with a 66-21 Rout of FAU
Florida scored its most points in a season opener since 1994 before a sold-out Swamp, but coach Jon Sumrall called parts of the defense "atrocious."

Jon Sumrall's Florida debut was loud. The Gators beat Florida Atlantic 66-21 on September 5 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in front of a 19th straight sellout crowd of 90,295.
Aaron Philo started at quarterback and threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns. Jadan Baugh rushed for 160 yards and three scores, and Vernell Brown III opened the scoring with a 49-yard touchdown catch. Florida piled up 624 total yards, and its 66 points were the most in a season opener since 1994.
Defense a concern
FAU still gained 396 yards and scored three touchdowns, and Sumrall described parts of his defense's performance as "atrocious." He said he wanted better situational awareness, tempo and communication heading into the following week's game against Campbell.
