Siesta Key has once more been crowned the best beach in the United States. In its 2026 ranking, U.S. News & World Report placed the Sarasota-area barrier island at No. 1, praising the famously fine, quartz-white sand that stays cool underfoot even in summer. Two other Florida shores made the same list, with Anna Maria Island near the top and Clearwater Beach in the top ten.

Florida also fared well in the closely watched list compiled by the coastal scientist known as "Dr. Beach." His 2026 national top ten included Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park near Naples, Caladesi Island near Clearwater, and St. Andrews State Park at Panama City — a reminder that the state's best swimming is spread across the Gulf Coast and the Panhandle, not just its marquee names.

Why the Gulf wins

The rankings reward the same qualities year after year: gentle, warm water; wide, clean sand; and easy family access. For travelers, the takeaway is that Florida's quieter state-park beaches often rival the headline resorts — and usually cost far less to enjoy.
