Brightline, the private rail service linking Miami and Orlando, is moving record numbers of riders. In the first quarter of 2026 the company carried more than 900,000 passengers — its highest quarterly total ever — and reported record quarterly revenue of about $61.2 million. Ridership for the opening months of 2026 ran well ahead of the same period two years earlier.

The growth has come alongside real financial strain. Brightline's most recent audit flagged "substantial doubt" about its ability to continue as a going concern, following a large net loss in 2025 and a heavy debt load. The company has restructured obligations as it works to close the gap between soaring ridership and the cost of building and running the railroad.

Eyes on Tampa

Brightline is also planning westward. It has been advancing studies for an Orlando-to-Tampa extension along the I-4 corridor and has invited the public to weigh in on a proposed downtown Tampa station. If built, the line would connect a third major metro to the system and reshape car-dependent travel across Central Florida.
